PATRICIA CANINO

« Touching the invisible, with the eyes »

After studying film at the National Institute of Performing Arts in Brussels, Patricia Canino directed several short films about art in Belgium and France.
Notable works include: “On n’a que soi: Fernand Khnopff”, wich received
First Prize for Image Quality at the International Art Film Festival ( Museum
Of Modern Art in Paris), and “ La sainte veille sur la ville endormie”, commisionned for the opening of the Orsay Museum in Paris.

Through her photographic work with the large format Polaroid camera, she oppened up the possibility of transforming the very body of th images with her hands, to achieve a metamorphosis of shapes and colours and reveal a more unreal and poetic world.
From shooting to printing on unexpected supports, her pictures became a place of experimentation. She operates across digital and film techniques and uses both photographic and non-photographic methods, working towards an increasingly plastic approach of the image.

From the cinema, she retains a sense of staging and the importance of lighting to sculpt volumes and enhance the brilliance of materials.

When she approaches the fashion world, with the body present or absent, she offers a glimpse of the sensuality of the fabrics as well as the strength and fragility of human beings.

Patricia Canino lives and works in Paris.
